Planning to Be Abroad for More Than Three Months? Here’s What You Need to Know

If you’re planning to be out of the country for more than three months, we want to make sure you have the right support in place while you’re away. Please review the following important information regarding your care and registration during your time abroad.

1. Let Us Know in Advance

If you’re planning to be abroad for more than three months, please notify us as soon as possible. You can do this by:

  • Writing to us

  • Using PATCHS (our online portal)

  • Visiting the practice in person

The sooner we know, the better we can help you plan for your care.

2. What Happens When You Leave

Once we’ve been notified of your travel plans, we’ll review your care needs. The NHS GP contract requires us to remove from our list anyone absent from the UK for 3 or more months. If you are removed, this will take effect on the date of your departure or as soon as possible after that.

3. Re-registering When You Return

When you return to the UK and if you still live within our practice area, you’re welcome to re-register with us. You’ll need to complete the standard registration process, just like a new patient.

4. Arranging Medication

If you take regular medication, we can provide prescriptions for up to three months, but please make sure to request your medication at least three weeks before you leave, to allow enough time for processing.

For stays longer than three months, you will need to make arrangements to get your medication while abroad.
